This article explores how the study of the early Chinese newspapers during the period of 1881 1941 is a useful approach in which we can better understand the history of Singapore. This can be observed in light of the impact that the Chinese press had on the development of the Chinese society in Singapore through its pedagogical functions, as well as its political role in facilitating the socialization process of the Chinese community.
